Once you check in, you're not leaving for several hours. Welcome, as the sign on the metal door reads, to "hotel CALORIEfornia."

Serving up Health Care Research (and Lunch)
Pulse-2010-08-MetResKit-smThe University of Colorado Hospital's Metabolic Research Kitchen looks a lot like what's behind a restaurant's swinging porthole doors, at least until one notices all the scales and labels.

The kitchen serves about 1,000 patients and research study participants a year, some of whom eat exclusively off their menu for as long as 12 weeks straight. Three full-time University of Colorado nutritionists create these menus, each customized to meet dietary needs and  patients' food preferences.

UCH, Project C.U.R.E. Turn 'Trash' into Overseas Treasure
Pulse-2010-08-CUREBecki Rwubusisi, RN, a transplant nurse at University of Colorado Hospital, has seen up close how much good discarded medical supplies can do. While working as a nurse in Rwanda, supplies from Project C.U.R.E. arrived at her clinic. Medical waste in the United States, it was treasure in Central Africa.

The hospital has made informal donations to Project C.U.R.E. for years. But now it has formalized the effort, launching regular collections from inpatient units of valuable medical supplies and equipment that might otherwise go to waste. And patients can help.
'NearBy' Service & Ameneties Guide Makes Debut

NearBy logoUniversity of Colorado Hospital has launched a new online service to help patients and visitors find nearby services, amenities and conveniences. NearBy, as the online service is called, is a free directory to eateries, lodging, groceries, shopping, transportation and a wide variety of other businesses on and near the Anschutz Medical Campus.
